At an age when children are developing the self awareness of themselves and the world around them, we work to recognise this and support them as they develop as individuals. Helping our toddlers to develop a sense of pride about themselves and their achievements, we provide them with the sense of routine and the boundaries that they need to develop their personal, social and emotional skills. Linked to the other areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), we support them as they discover more about themselves and their environment - learning through play to provide fun, interesting and exciting opportunities to learn.
We respond and listen to each toddler's needs through observation, interaction and working alongside parents, setting developmental 'Next Steps' to help build on their progress on each of the six areas of the EYFS. Parents are involved in their child's progress and development, helping their children to gain independence at nursery - making choices as part of their daily routine. Activities based around each toddlers's 'Next Steps' are set to encourage independence, with a choice of snacks at snack time and an opportunity to express their views on indoor or outdoor play during the morning.
Each child's key person continues to work in partnership with parents, to give them an input on their toddler's nursery day - helping to provide a transition between nursery and home life. At this age, we work fully alongside parents to help when their child is ready for potty training - with staff available to provide help, support and advice on the topic when needed?
At this age when toddlers begin to discover their independence, we work alongside parents to provide a supportive role - helping to develop the social relationships that toddlers are starting to form with adults and their peers.
